When life gives you lemon, you use it on your skin! I wrote an article about the benefits of lemon for Lipstiq.com (click here to read article!) because I’ve been obsessing with how it actually works wonders on my skin.
I have incredibly crap skin & yes, it is my own fault for not drinking water and hating all form of vegetables that aren’t lady fingers. But as I get older, I get more paranoid of how my skin looks. So deciding it was now or never, I’ve been attempting at all cost to take better care of myself (yeay me!).
So here I’m sharing my weekly Lemon Skincare must- do’s. I can’t guarantee it works for you, but it really does work for me, so I’m guessing it’s worth a try 🙂
Why use lemon for your skin?
- Lemon is a great astringent
- Lemon juice is a natural antiseptic and helps clears oil and dirt which causes breakouts.
- Lemon has bleaching properties which is effective on pimples and acne scars.
I usually buy one lemon from the grocer as it is more than enough. You can use the whole thing without wastage.
1. Lemon Juice + Sugar Face Scrub.
Lemon is known to lighten scars, make your skin softer, & get rid of black heads. I added some honey as well (it has anti-bacterial properties) & then sugar, since it’s coarse enough to use to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells off your skin. This is also great for people with oily skin (like myself!). Just mix it together, and scrub your face gently for a few minutes. When you feel the sugar starting to clump and fall off your skin, just rinse with warm water, pat dry & moisturise. If you have extra, you can also use it for your body (I usually use it for my knees, underarm and foot!)
2. Lemon Juice & Water.
There’s bound to be excess lemon juice, so I usually keep it in a container (I use a spraying bottle, so it’s easier) & I can use it daily (less than week) to wipe my underarms & also, use it every two nights once to wipe my face. especially places I have scars. This will help lighten and even out the skintone.
3. Lemon Rind + Sugar Lip Exfoliate.
A lot of people don’t know this, but there are a lot of dead cells on the surface of your lips. Exfoliating up to two to three times a week will make it smoother and supple. Let’s not forget that exfoliating also helps circulate the blood in your lips, making it pinker (& more kissable!). Use the lemon peel, add some sugar, rub it on your lips gently and then apply lip balm. Just remember to be very, very gentle as it can cause your lips to bleed otherwise. Also, if you already have cuts on your lips, it’ll sting a little but just wash it off and it’ll be fine.
I’m not a professional at skincare, but this has been doing wonders for me, so I thought I’d share. Do let me know if any of you have tried it or will try it after this, and see results!
You’re right. Lemon works wonders for the skin and I absolutely love them! I use them myself and it’s made a difference for my skin.
