Last year around this time, I blogged about how I turned a pack of bindis/pottus into moon shaped ones (CLICK ME! for the tutorial).

I still have the same batch of bindis lying around, and decided it was time to get crafty yet again. This time, with some colour & bling!

Let’s start off with some colour;

IMG_20141012_000347 All you need is the nail polish colours of your choice and a pack of plain bindis. Just colour the bindis with the nail polish and leave them to dry fully. Keep in mind that lighter colours require several layers, so this has to be done a few days in advance before you get to wear it. What a cute way to match your bindis to your outfits and even, nails 😉

& now, for some bling-bling!

IMG_20141012_000657Paint a coat of nail polish over the plain bindi & sprinkle glitter on it. Press it down to make sure the glitter sticks well to the polish. Leave it to dry, after which you add another layer of nail polish on the glitter to keep it from falling off.

Another one you can try is:

IMG_20141012_000500Same method as the previous one applies. Just paint one layer of nail polish onto the bindi, and immediately paste embellishments on it. I absolutely love pearls and haven’t found nice pearl bindis, so this was a perfect way I could do it myself! For this however, I wouldn’t recommend going over it again with another layer of nail polish unless you want it extra shiny.

This way you get to have an entire revamped bindi set of your own without spending (or hardly spending!) any money 🙂 Definitely my favourite kind of DIYs 😉

As tradition would have it at Deeper Than Fashion, every year for Deepavali I release a collection inspired by the colours, elements and beauty of the festive holiday.

Of course, my collection wouldn’t be complete without my signature and original designs of the Indian Dreamcatcher. This time I took it one step further by incorporating designs of Hindu goddesses into them because every girl, is a goddess.

These are the beautiful pieces that emerged from the ideas in my head. I couldn’t be happier of how they turned out;

& since the last one didn’t have a goddess charm on it, the special person who bought it gets to be the goddess instead. I shamelessly was for a bit;1964966_10152421153427058_162871758943736270_n

As a kid, I always loved those temporary stick on tattoos. You know, the kind you get from a pack of gum with really cute designs of cartoons and stuff? Yup, those. I thought they were super cool.

As an adult, I finally got inked. After that painful and amazing experience, I never thought I’d ever, ever go back to liking temporary tattoos again. I was dead wrong because temporary tattoos now come in the form of flash tattoos which inked tattoos can’t provide. Sometimes a girl just needs a little bling 😉

Infusing foil-like shiny, these tattoos are inspired by jewelry. They’ve been trending like crazy online, and I absolutely fell in love with how pretty they were. And then it happened… Beyonce, the queen herself, started rocking them! yonce

I’ve been searching high and low for these gorgeous temporary tattoos in Malaysia & found Shiny Happy People! shappyShappy (short for Shiny Happy People, how cute!)tattoos is fairly new and comes in limited designs for now. Regardless, I’m already a fan and bought two packs for myself 🙂

IMG_20141001_075707

Perfect for that beach vacation or even music festival as they are water-resistant & long lasting (with special care).

Here are some easy steps and useful tips to follow when putting on a temporary tattoo;

  1. Peel off the plastic surface that protects the tattoo and choose a spot on the body you’d like to stick it on. Flatter surfaces and also parts of the body that require least moving/stretching is ideal if you want it to last longer.
  2. Make sure the image is face down when you place it. Also, due to it’s sticky nature, make sure you are positive about the spot you want to stick it on.
  3. Once it’s stuck on, use a wet tissue or cloth to gently wipe over the back of the tattoo. Hold it on for several seconds (preferably more than 15).
  4. Hold a corner and slowly peel off the paper. Make sure it’s done slowly to avoid the tattoo design from moving (since its still wet) or even for pieces that are still stuck to the paper, you can still fix it by sponging it again and waiting for a longer period of time.
  5. When that’s done, allow your tattoo to dry. It’s still mildly stick, so you can either just gently dab it with your fingers so the stickiness wears off, or you can dust it with talcum powder. Also, don’t move that part around until it settles down in order to avoid the design from tearing.
  6. To remove, you can use baby oil & give it a good scrub. IMG_20141001_204252

Look how pretty! I love how it stands out against my dark skin. I can’t wait to try them all out! Also since Deepavali is around the corner, instead of the traditional henna, this year I’m looking forward to rocking these 🙂

Here’s another picture just because I wanted to show it off again :3IMG_20141001_204434Get your own set at Shiny Happy People! <— click it!

I absolutely hate it when my favourite bags get slightly torn or dirty to the extend that it can’t be fixed. If it is still use-able but just not as pretty, give it a makeover & add a little life to it! Here’s how I repurposed one of my bags;

DSC_0069This pretty lavender bag has a faulty ribbon that was already at the verge of falling off & I also lost the straps. Rummaging through my accessory drawer, I found a statement necklace I love but the chains had rusted a little;

Combining both accessories, I created something brand new & trendy!

DSC_0075Things you need:
Statement necklace (recycled or brand new)
Clutch or bag
Elephant glue or any other really string glue
Pliers (to remove the chains from the necklace)

Step One: Remove the chains from your necklace. Keep them aside, it can be used for other repurposing.
Step Two: Place the statement piece on your bag. If its a bag with flaws, try to use it to cover all that.
Step Three: Add glue to the back of the statement piece like such; DSC_0076Step Four: Paste it on the bag and place it under a heavy object, such as a book. This will ensure the piece sticks on properly. Leave it overnight to dry and you are done!

Lord Ganesha is probably one of the best-known and worshipped Hindu gods. Others may know him as the elephant god as Ganesha has an elephant’s head. Being the remover of obstacles, I’ve always had a personal liking to Ganesha especially since my mom would make an effort to make a stop at the Ganesha temple every morning before going to work, or my dad would always drive past the temple to pray in whenever he left the house. Ganesha has always been a favourite in my household, and that rubbed off on me.

I’m probably not the most religious person, but I believe that my prayers and thoughts on it are between me and god. This however is a completely different story all together. Coming back to Ganesha, I’ve made dreamcatchers incorporating him in them and the response has been overwhelming. I take this as a sign of blessing;IMG_20140904_135800IMG_20140904_153236IMG_20141028_230053I love how I was able to incorporate something that was significant to my life and learn that it was equally as significant to others. The first one I made was completely by chance (exactly how most of my designs come to life) and I am so happy to have had this idea come to me.

IMG_20140829_155350IMG_20140829_174455Today is Vinayagar Chaturthi, the Hindu festival to celebrate the god Ganesha; remover of obstacles, of new beginnings and wisdom.

& as tradition would have it, I create dreamcatchers with different themes and ideas, incorporating elements of each festival. This time I decided I would make one to get blessed for me.

Wishing all of you a blessed day & may all your obstacles be removed. Sending you love and light.

As a birthday gift, I went on a beach vacation to Cherating, Kuantan (a detailed post on that soon! Promise!). One of my favourite activities to do as I stroll along the beach and enjoy the sea breeze is to collect seashells. Something I’ve been doing since I was a child, but this time around with a different purpose, to infuse into my designs.

Previously in attempts to create holes in my seashells, I have managed to break and destroy quite a number of beautiful ones. This time around, I actually went looking for shells with holes in them;

IMG_20140715_182359

Certain species of sea creatures feed on these oysters and clams. Using their sharp, drill-like tongue enables them to create a perfect hole in the shell and suck out their meal inside. Ta-daa! Perfectly drilled holes in your seashells.IMG_20140719_122842 I’ve come across these shells ample of times, only to dismiss them as imperfect and proceed to pick up another one. How wrong I was. These seashells with holes not only saves me the trouble of drilling holes (& possibly breaking the shells as they are so delicate) but also, saves up so much time! The day right after I got back from my trip, I was immediately inspired to make a necklace for myself and all in a matter of minutes!
IMG_20140716_235405IMG_20140716_234857The perfect mermaid jewelry, minus all the fuss. Next time I’m at the beach, I know exactly what seashells I want to look for. The imperfect ones 🙂
