The doodle bug has taken over and to be honest, I’m more zen because of it. Also, I’ve been selling my artwork for charity. The buyer can pay however much they want (above Rm50) for the artwork, and all proceeds go to an animal rescue charity.

This time, I was Buddha vibin’ big time;

So completely blessed that someone actually made a purchase to make a difference. Can’t wait for what’s next!

Taking a break from a constantly jewelry making spree, I’m fallen in love with doodling again. It’s been working pretty well on my end. The results of it all is so rewarding. Plus I have new artwork for my wall 🙂

Been using the clay pot I painted for Ponggal as my brush holder; 2015-05-08 08.43.58But clumsy me, I dropped it & had to remake another one. The end result this round, was much nicer; 11156344_10152828212047058_1975390136112033372_nIt turned out so pretty I almost feel guilty using it as a makeup brush holder. So for now, it’s just there to decorate my table; 2015-04-13 22.48.41

After The Star interview previously, the photographer on set, Raymond Ooi called me up to ask me if I’d like to be the cover of the newspaper for a Christmas series. The catch however was that I had to create a tree completely decorated by recycled ornaments in less than 24 hours for the photoshoot. As I’m always up for a challenge to test my creativity levels, I decided to give it a go (after a panic attack, of course).

The end result was something I am so proud of;IMG_20141218_195628IMG_20141218_223910The flower ornaments were made from recycled crepe paper (from flowers I’ve gotten before) & the fan paper flowers were pages of an old book that was coming apart. IMG_20141218_231813The star was also done using paper but this time cardboard. Some weaving work was required but it was fairly simple. I may just make smaller versions of these for decorations in the future 🙂 IMG_20141218_231434IMG_20141217_230507These ornaments were made of jar lids! I had made some tinted mason jars previously, and these were leftovers from that. I just cover the area with PVA glue and stuck rhinestones in it to give it some extra sparkle. Alternatively I wanted to use cut up pieces of old CDs but didn’t have enough time to execute it. IMG_20141218_232433IMG_20141219_113229My favourite of them all, are these little sock snowmen I’ve created. Using socks and leftover craft materials, these little fellas were so easy and fun to do. I love how cute they are! IMG_20141218_234405It might just be a tradition in my household to have recycled materials turned into ornaments for a tree.

Making my Christmas a crafty one,

diy empty bottles, diy recycles jars, diy tinted mason jars, mason jars, mason jars malaysia, recycled jars, tinted mason jars malaysia, what to do with empty bottles

I’ve being attempting several DIYs for Christmas using recycle-able materials & one that I’ve always found really gorgeous are tinted mason jars. Being an avid Pinterest addict, I’ve read several do-it-yourself guides & decided to give it a shot after scouting for the materials myself. IMG_20141217_200923

Materials you need:
– Mason jars (empty glass bottles)
– Mod Podge glue (from ArtFriend)
– Food colouring of choice.
Step One: Mix mod podge and two drops of food colouring into clean, empty jar. The amount of mod podge is based on jar size, however you can plan according to how much you deem fitting for full coverage of the bottle.IMG_20141217_201003
Step two: Slowly rotate the glass jar so the mixture covers all surfaces of the glass. Make sure you do it slowly and gently to avoid leaving spots. The key is to not use too much paint because it drips and also don’t attempt to fix it or repaint if messed up as it’ll leave streaks. To avoid this, ensure the mouth of the jar is facing the bottom.
IMG_20141217_201415
Step Three: Leave it to dry for 24 hours. I usually use wax paper or just leave it in my sink. Once dried, it gets transparent, like a glue with colour. IMG_20141217_201228
Step Four: Turn it over and leave it out in the sun for extra measures. You can never be too careful! Or if you are unhappy with the earlier result, just throw it in some warm soap water and you can wash it out. IMG_20141217_201459
Step Five: You are done! You can now use it for your fairy lights, or even as a candle holder. It is also durable to heat, so you can place the candle in the jar and it’ll stay exactly as it dried. This is however not water soluble, so do not attempt to use water in it.  IMG_20141217_201539IMG_20141217_201635Alternatively, here are more mason jar ideas that are so lovely I had to share! Art comes in millions of forms, however it’s definitely a form of magic. There is no limit to types of art you can pick up; always new techniques, colours and hues, types of skill, tool, it’s endless.

As much as I take pride in my wearable art a.k.a the jewelry I make, I sometimes need a little artistic getaway to expand my horizons. The end result this time around, new painting of Ganesha inspired by pictures I found on Tumblr.
PhotoGrid_1417533465568These were both done using different styles. PhotoGrid_1417535397681Acrylic paint on canvas with water base. The Ganesha was drawn with a Sharpie and copic markers to add gradients & shades. PhotoGrid_1417562644677Basic acrylic on canvas in a rainbow gradient. Recently I’ve been inspired to move away from the familiarity that is my jewellery designing and making, and took a journey through phases I’ve been through before with art.

Today it was acrylic on canvas; IMG_20141018_131753IMG_20141018_124915

With Diwali being around the corner, I decided to get crafty and create my own signature pieces for my home decorations. I usually work on small details and aspects of design that I hope makes a big difference.

Last year I made my own DIY Rhinestone kollam, this year I decided to reuse the kollam but add in more colours by adding handpainted oil lamps. Light is significant in Hinduism as it signifies goodness. Hence during the Festival of Light (Diwali) oil lamps are lit.

Plain clay oil lamps can be found in many Indian stores, especially around Klang or Brickfields (where I got mine!) are so easy to find. It was fun using a different medium as a canvas to channel my art. The end results were satisfying 🙂

Of colours & doodles;

IMG_20141014_231225IMG_20141016_234322IMG_20141014_234159 I was worried about using oil as it would ruin all that hard work, so I used tealight candles instead. I also attempted to turn mason jars into candle holders/lantern.

I got plain jars, then tinted them in colours of my choice & proceeded to doodles on them as well. Here’s a sample of one of it I tinted in emerald green and doodles with gold;554495_825675027485351_2749005704224037176_nThis however was a tricky DIY that took a lot of effort and time. Also, the colouring process is incredibly messy. I ended up with tie-dye coloured hands for a day or two.

But hey, who’s complaining? Rainbow hands 🙂

Last year around this time, I blogged about how I turned a pack of bindis/pottus into moon shaped ones (CLICK ME! for the tutorial).

I still have the same batch of bindis lying around, and decided it was time to get crafty yet again. This time, with some colour & bling!

Let’s start off with some colour;

IMG_20141012_000347 All you need is the nail polish colours of your choice and a pack of plain bindis. Just colour the bindis with the nail polish and leave them to dry fully. Keep in mind that lighter colours require several layers, so this has to be done a few days in advance before you get to wear it. What a cute way to match your bindis to your outfits and even, nails 😉

& now, for some bling-bling!

IMG_20141012_000657Paint a coat of nail polish over the plain bindi & sprinkle glitter on it. Press it down to make sure the glitter sticks well to the polish. Leave it to dry, after which you add another layer of nail polish on the glitter to keep it from falling off.

Another one you can try is:

IMG_20141012_000500Same method as the previous one applies. Just paint one layer of nail polish onto the bindi, and immediately paste embellishments on it. I absolutely love pearls and haven’t found nice pearl bindis, so this was a perfect way I could do it myself! For this however, I wouldn’t recommend going over it again with another layer of nail polish unless you want it extra shiny.

This way you get to have an entire revamped bindi set of your own without spending (or hardly spending!) any money 🙂 Definitely my favourite kind of DIYs 😉
