I’m the least athletic person I know. Dancing the night away in heels, or walking around the shopping complex is the most exercise I do. Okay, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, I do a half an hour walk from the LRT station to my office daily, but that’s about all the workout I do. But when my bestfriend-lover-person told me about The Music Run, I absolutely had to be a part of it.

The Music Run, that was held at the Selangor Turf Club was an interactive 5km fun running experience. No time clock, no training routine, no judging!; I was sold to the idea of walking to good music since that is exactly what I do when I walk to work, listen to music 🙂

With five different music genres, 5 zones across five kilometers; we made it!
IMG_427433965152760IMG_419868053791363My first marathon event. I didn’t exactly run, and walked through most of it but I’m proud of the fact I took the effort to walk 5km (& hardly felt it because of the amazing person next to me and the conversations we had).

Right after we finished The Music Run, we had another event we were looking forward to, SDS Holi at the Shree Lakshme Narayanan Temple.

Holi is a spring festival also known as the festival of colours and the festival of love. It is an ancient Hindu religious festival which has become popular with non-Hindus in many parts of South Asia, as well as people of other communities. The festival signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, end of winter, and for many a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair ruptured relationships. (Yes, straight off Wikipedia)

We went there clad in full white, not quite sure what to expect but ended up having a fantastic time;

PhotoGrid_1395583645141

Everyone looked like walking pieces of rainbow art due to the colourful powder thrown on them. So many different people, from different religions and walks of life, throwing coloured powder on each other, playing with water, dancing to really good bhangra, and just having a really good time.

PhotoGrid_1395583587325

PhotoGrid_1395583666300PhotoGrid_1395583619468& of course, since I had my face in colours of the rainbow, selfies were a must;

PhotoGrid_1395583864665I can’t wait for next year’s Holi festival!
Even if the colour did end up staining my skin, and I look like I’ve been abuse, it was well worth it :3

I was invited to the Himalaya Herbal Healthcare Anti Hair Fall event, along with 11 other bloggers from The Butterfly Project at Rupini’s Beauty Spa in Jalan Telawi, Bangsar. Having heard of the brand before and how it was really effective for those with hair loss, I was pretty excited to see what they had in store for us bloggers.

As soon as I walked in, I was treated to a drink (I picked fresh soya bean) and a little crossword puzzle based on the new Himalaya anti-fall products that I was about to try out. Luckily my brain decided to cooperate even with my lack of sleep.

Or maybe, just maybe, me & Shivani of Pen My Blog discussed some of the answers 😉
IMG_155d1

This was actually a good way to get to know the product as we had to read about it several times in order to solve the puzzle.

Himalaya Anti Hair Fall has been in the market for some time now and has quite a following. The reason being, these products not only are completely ayurvedic and herbal, but also is effective at such a reasonable price! It is a 2-in-1 formula that helps to nourish the roots and strengthen weakened hair. Also, it is a gentle shampoo that is safe to use on permed, straightened and dyed hair.

While waiting to get my hair consultation, I walked around taking pictures and I couldn’t help but take a picture of some of the Indian decor in Rupini’s. I especially love this piece. It was so beautiful hanging over a bowl of flowers;

DSC_0010

Every one of us got our hair consultations done to give us a better idea of what we need to do to avoid hair fall and such. The consultant used a scanning device and ran it against the scalp so we could have a better look at the roots and how much oil it produces; DSC_0020DSC_0024To be honest, I was a little grossed out to see what it looked like up close. *points at picture*. That is just too weird looking! But the great news is, I have really healthy hair. Yay me! :3

After that, we got pampered to a nice 10 minute oil head massage using the Himalaya Revitalizing Hair Oil;
IMG_20131026_130302As soon as I heard the word oil, automatically I cringed inwards remembering the time when I was forced to use coconut oil for my hair as a kid (& oh, that smell!). I was pleasantly surprised with the scent of the oil that was used. Not too strong and quite pleasant.

The shampoo, smelt similar to the oil. It’s not a perfumey smell like I am used to, but has a natural, fresh smell to it. Something I could get used to (& if you know me, I can’t tolerate any form of weird smells, as it gives me a headache). This on it’s own was a plus point for me!

Once all the girls got our hairs done, the organizer of this event, Shireen Chrishanthi gave us a short talk on the Himalaya Anti Hair Fall Range and the benefits of it. Right after that, we were introduced to a professional hair stylist, Justin from Shear Perfection Hair Salon, who gave us his honest feedback on what hair suited us best, as well as the latest in hair trends;

PhotoGrid_1382791661425David’s comment on my hairstyle was that it was nice, but safe and that if I added more waves to it, it’d be sexier. I think this calls for a Hair-volution blog post on all the things I’m made my hair go through these past few years. I doubt it’d be deemed as safe 😉

Before bidding farewell, we had a group photography session with all the wonderful people present that day;
IMG_1553I obviously wasn’t ready for the picture, but oh well 🙂

& we each got a goodie bag with the Himalaya’s Anti-Hair Fall Shampoo and Himalaya’s Anti-Hair Fall Cream to take home;
DSC_0029I’m looking forward to continue using these products to see what more it can do for my hair.

The pro was I love how shiny my hair looked after the event & the con was, it wasn’t as soft as I expected it to be, however that could be due to the minimal anti fall hair cream (that doubles as a conditioner of some sort) that was used on my hair earlier;
IMG_20131026_184353

Also we got a free Hot Oil Massage voucher from Rupini’s Bangsar, and a discount voucher from Shear Perfection Salon. Which I can’t wait to try out & review soon!

A huge THANK YOU to Miss Shireen for having me and the other butterflies from The Butterfly Project, Himalaya Healthcare Malaysia, David of Shear Perfection Salon & lastly, Rupini’s Beauty Spa, Bangsar.

GUESS LUXE Launch.

24 Thursday Oct 2013

I got an invite to attend the GUESS LUXE launch via The Butterfly Project & I was really excited because it was my first event under them.

It was basically a showcase of the GUESS Luxe exclusive leather handbags. There was a colour theme to follow, which was white. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t have anything that was fully white (insert mental note to buy some plain coloured clothes), so I had to improvise with just a white shirt;

IMG_20131025_000055I attended the event, my colleague and fellow blogger, Marcia at RogueWolf. Events are always so much more fun when you have a girlfriend with you!;
PhotoGrid_1382619453917As soon as I walked in, it was like a child in a candy store. I couldn’t help but just walk around, touching, carrying & attempting to steal (just kidding!) all the handbags.

I’ve never really been much of a GUESS handbag sorta girl, but I was converted that night for sure. The GUESS Luxe Fall/Winter 2013 collection was so chic! The bags were minimal, but with an additional detail on each of it to give it an extra wow factor.

Look at all these pretty bags!;
PhotoGrid_1382619386684 PhotoGrid_1382619356662PhotoGrid_1382619423329I could go on and on with super long descriptions of all the bags & why I absolutely need them in my closet, but here are my favourite among the lot;

IMG_20131024_191655Quilted, bronze tones, and plain black bags with chain handle details. So classy with a hint of edgy, I absolutely love!

But I saved the best for last;
IMG_20131024_190803This is the Golden Cage mini flap bag. It’s quilted, has gold detailing on the flap as well as the gold chain straps that can be worn both short or long. This bag is easy to match, and can be used on a daily. To me, it oozes sexy, confident, stylish vibes.

Oh, and not forgetting the super funky zebra bracelet from GUESS as well. I just had to try it on! Love, love, love animal accessories!

& speaking of accessories, here are some of the accessories that were on display that caught my eye;
PhotoGrid_1382619241106PhotoGrid_1382619304018The event kick started with these super cute dancers dancing, while modelling the handbags. Seriously too cute! (Also check out how they were swarmed by the bloggers all wanting to get a good shot for their respective blogs!);
PhotoGrid_1382619206644After the little show, we were briefed about the collection, basically getting to know what the new collection was all about. They even conducted a contest where 3 lucky bloggers got to take home GUESS bags.

But no one went home empty handed as we were giving goodie bags at the end of the event;
PhotoGrid_1382699640721I GUESS this is what style looks like 😉

Kumar vs Malaysia Live – show aftermath.

When I heard of Kumar vs Malaysia, organised by Define International, I absolutely had to go! & I am so glad I did!
IMG_20131018_011555
The tickets were slightly pricey, however worth every cent! Also, it came with a 3 course meal;
IMG_20131018_011632The comedians representing Malaysia were Kuah Jenhan, Kavin Jayaram & Rizal van Geyzel. I had previously watched Kavin and Rizal both perform several times, but Kavin keeps getting better!. For some reason, this wasn’t Rizal’s best performance, but hey, everyone’s allowed an ‘off’ day. Jenhan on the other hand, was my favourite of the Malaysians. His delivery and timing was on point. Dr.Jason Leong, (also a stand up comedian)was the emcee that night, and was a perfect choice for the event.

Of course, the highlight and main act of the night, was none other than the fabulous drag-queen, Kumar;
IMG_20131018_011529I can’t even begin to describe how incredibly hilarious he was! I laughed so hard, my face hurts! He was fast, witty and honest with his jokes. His expressions were so epic!

But the best part of the night, was actually meeting Kumar, even if it was for just a picture and an exchange of two sentences;
PhotoGrid_1382030267195My mom and I were such fans and used to watch his travelogue cooking show, “Rusiyo Rusi”. One of my fondest memories with her, was laughing at Kumar’s exaggerative antics, and how my mom used to always say he reminded her of me and how dramatic and skinny I was.

What I didn’t enjoy about the show, was the impromptu session they had. The questions were prepared by the audience, which weren’t exactly suitable as I thought some of them were offensive and some border-lining ridiculous, such as “Who farts louder, Malaysians or Singaporeans?”. However, Kumar was on point and had his A game one with his replies.

In this friendly match of Kumar vs Malaysia, as proud of a Malaysian as I am, this round definitely went to Kumar hands down. But our boys did a great job and did us proud!

I’ll definitely be looking forward to the next one by Define International. Do click like on their Facebook page to keep tabs of the updates, shows and acts they’ll be bringing in! 🙂

Markets at Jaya One (Uniquely Malaysian).

I’ve done Markets at Jaya One about 4 times now, and so far it’s the only bazaar I have opened my Deeper Than Fashion booth at. The only reason I started doing Markets among all the bazaars out there was because when I used to want a good bargain and to hunt for awesome things, I used to visit the Markets with my girlfriends.

This time around, since I’ve been working full-time, the whole experience was a different and more hectic one. I had to work twice as hard on my free time but the end result was incredibly rewarding and worth it.

My booth and how it was displayed;

20131005_105648Spreading the rainbow-love!
20131005_110104

My huge handmade hula-hoop dreamcatcher, that was the attention grabber at all my bazaars!
20131005_105701

A lot of familiar faces, friends both old and new dropped by my booth;

PhotoGrid_1381015419426 PhotoGrid_1381015149531

Shelby who runs Bisou BonBon Bisou Rose selling all handcrafted bath and body care whose booth was right opposite mine, bought me this super cute badge! She is probably one of the sweetest people I know ;

20131005_114527I also had the opportunity to meet new people, talk to them about my brand and what it is I do. So many people were really supportive and nice;
PhotoGrid_1381015234730I even had some kid customers who loved my booth because everything was so colourful. They were so cute! ;
PhotoGrid_1381015289990All in all, Deeper Than Fashion going offline was a great experience once again. I love being able to meet new people and make new friends, to be able to hear such kind and inspiring words from people.

I’d like to thank each and every one of you who dropped by to show me some love, regardless if you bought anything or not. The fact you stopped by my booth to show support meant a whole lot to me. Also, those of you who messaged me wishing me luck and all the kind words of encouragements, eventhough you couldn’t make it, thank you as well. I truly appreciate every single bit of support.

Another Markets teaser.

Besides these, I’ll be making more necklaces and earrings, dreamcatchers, bringing in clutches, handpicked accessories, hand-dye tie-dye tank top dresses, and much more 😉

Also, I sponsored a goodie bag full of accessories & a dreamcatcher for a games booth organized by Markets. Old skool games! Dropby the booth register & win some awesome prizes!;

You’ve heard it before, “Laughter is the best medicine!”, and as cliche as it sounds, it’s proven to be true! Which is why, this is going to be incredibly epic! Kumar vs Malaysia!
1234697_572200196170113_92758974_n

“It’s the ultimate battle of the nations as Kumar takes centre stage to represent Singapore going up against our Malaysian comedy commandos, Kuah JenHan, Kavin Jay and Rizal Van Geyzel in ‘KUMAR VS MALAYSIA’.

This epic clash of wits will take place at the Manhattan Ballroom, Berjaya Times Square Hotel KL on the 16th & 17th of October since one night would just not be enough. It may be 1 against 3 but make no mistake, Kumar is coming fully prepared!

Enjoy the show with an amazing 3 course dinner which is inclusive with every ticket purchased. It’s going to be a comedic clash of our Tigers Vs the Lioness which you would not want to miss!”

I’ve watched Kumar on Tv and on YouTube, I am such a fan. I’ve also watched these Malaysian boys live before, and was not disappointed! You can check out Define International Sdn Bhd to find out more about the event, or you can just purchase the tickets right away HERE! (because you just can’t go wrong with these bunch of comedians & I already bought mine!). Or you can try to win tickets;

LivingSocial Experience.

I received an email from LivingSocial inviting me over for an event at their head office to get to know their company better as well as the announcement of the Travel Contest they conducted for their 1 year anniversary. Four lucky winners won hotel stays at Swiss-Garden International hotels, resorts and inns around Malaysia (Jealous, I am!).

After which LivingSocial presented a slideshow of their company, as well as gave us a tour of their office. The team was pretty big, and they all seemed really fun. LivingSocial is basically a local marketplace to purchase some amazing discounted offers. I personally have bought several vouchers and items through their site, and have not been disappointed.

Speech by the CEO of LivingSocial.

Once our tour was over, they had a small tea-time session, where I not only got to know the people from LivingSocial but also the other bloggers who attended. These girls were super nice and friendly!

IMG_20130509_010530

Today was an amazing experience, my first ever rally! I walked in the stadium completely exhausted from the other events of the day, but was immediately pumped up as I fed off all the energy of the people around me. People singing Negaraku with so much pride and patriotism I felt I might start tearing, from an incredibly noisy and pumped up stadium to pin drop silence when the prayers were going showing so much respect for each and every religion, everyone helping each other out as they offered water and ponchos for random strangers to sit on. I sat back and watched it all, completely amazed and impressed by the amount of unity and peace that I witnessed.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Malaysians so united and with so much pride for the country. I wouldn’t change that experience for anything else.

Henna Night Party.

I had the privilege (and also headache!) of planning my sister’s Henna Night. It was basically a party where all us girls got our hands and feets adorned in henna (inai), ate good food and had a great time. I won’t elaborate further on what happened but I’m more than willing to share the decoration ideas which I put together, with the help of my cousin as well as the services I used to make it more amazing and convinient!

1
My sister & I both got our nails done in the comfort of our own home by Nails On Wheels. They provide manicure and pedicure service at your doorstep, and since we were both extremely busy with wedding preparations, this was an absolute time saver! I would definitely recommend using their service, since they did a great and neat job.

2
My sister got her henna done. Just had to share this picture because the details were intricate and gorgeous!

3
My table display! Intially I had different plans, but I turned it into a dessert table. Here are some close ups;

4

First of all, the amazingly cute artwork was done by a friend of mine Alison from Stickgirl.Production. She does these incredibly cute designs fit for any occassion! So if you have anything in mind, she’ll be happy to do comissioned work as well 🙂 I asked her for two designs, one as a poster & one for tags for goodie bags.

I made a Bindi Board, because majority of my sister’s friends are Chinese and I thought it would be really cute to provide them with bindis just incase they didn’t already have one. Also, after all that running around and dancing (this happens to me all the time), there’s a high chance your bindi goes missing and you’ll need one to replace it 😉 This came in really handy and tons of people loved the idea of it. The bindis were really cheap as well, I got them from Mangala Theebam in Brickfields for Rm2 a pack of 16 in assorted colours.

I used coloured bangles as part of the decorations as well. The bangles were my own that I got during a bazaar sale in Klang a year ago. I just strung them to yarn and tied them seperately so they don’t clump together, and just used them like I would a bunting. Added an extra Indian-y touch to the board. I also added peacock feathers, because what’s an Indian board without peacock feathers right? 😉
5Now the best part, the dessert! Besides Indian sweets, I ordered a batch of macarons from a friend (who is also a fellow mermaid!) Annatasha. Those were to die for! I’m not a fan of macarons but these were so nyum (especially the purple ones) and finished really fast! They make really good doorgifts as well. I placed them on a silver tray to give it a more authentic look. If anyone is interested, you can always drop her an email at annatasha.s2@gmail.com

& the higlight of the table, was the Henna designed cake;

6
This cake is as good as it looks! It was a sugee cake with yellow fondant, and chocolate icing to make it looks like henna. My dad’s friend, Aunty Agnes baked this gorgeous creation & her daughter drew on the design with icing. I gave them a rough idea of what I wanted and they made it to perfection! She not only bakes, but is an amazing cook as well. If any of you are interested, you can contact her ; manjurah.nadarajah@gmail.com
7 The goodie bags were also provided by her, & I just added on the tags. It was filled with Hershey’s Kisses 🙂

9

This was probably my favouritest part of the entire house. Crepe paper flower strands from India (but you can get these at Brickfields or Klang as well), all strung together by my family members to give it a curtain look. It made the house all vibrant and festive looking.
8

Besides using the paper flowers, we used sarees to drape over the sofas and cupboards. That was probably the easiest thing to do to add the Indian touch. Previously, I’ve even used it to drape across the ceiling for another event. It really depends on how you want the look to be. The colourful sarees add extra colours and makes the space look more full.

That’s it for decorations done by yours truly with the help of the family.
Here’s my outfit of the night;IMG_20130501_004436Anarkali punjabi suit from Suryaa Boutique in Masjid India for Rm50.
Kashmiri Jhimki from Global Indian Fair (a year ago) for Rm25.

I hope these tips on decorations and stuff are of some help if your planning an Indian event. Do let me know if you use any of the ideas, would love to see the outcome! 🙂
