Malaysia Day is held on September 16 every year to commemorate the establishment of the Malaysian federation on the same date in 1963. It marked the joining together of Malaya, North Borneo, & Sarawak to form Malaysia. – source:Wikipedia.

To most of us, it’s just another day to be thankful for, because it’s a public holiday. Usually, I would take the opportunity to laze at home and work on accessories, or catch up on some sleep, but this time I decided I’d use the day to do something Malaysian. And by that I mean jalan-jalan cari makan! (walk around and look for food) because we Malaysians, we love our food!

For some reason, even my bowl of cereal decided to be all patriotic (note the moon and star like our Malaysian flag). Seriously, was I the only one who didn’t know they added moons to the Honeystars?!

IMG_20130916_124134 I decided to head over to Petaling Street (Chinatown) in Kuala Lumpur. It’s one of the older parts of Kuala Lumpur, which has amazing hawker food as well as lots of street art. Besides that, it’s also our local shopping bazaar where you can find fake branded goods among other things, Took the LRT to Pasar Seni, which stops right where Chinatown starts. The best part, as you walk down the steps of the LRT station, there’s is huge grafitti art all over the place. Spent the day soaking in all the art and culture, feeling all happy to be living in such a diverse country (with such amazing food!),
PhotoGrid_1379324253352While I was at it, I thought I’d be extra patriotic and wore this incredibly awesome tie-dye Jalur Gemilang tshirt from 27 Legacy Tie Dye. I’m a sucker for anything handmade, and local brands, this was a combination of both! I make tie-dye tshirts too, but major props on the creativity and execution of these tshirt designs. Every Malaysian should own one! Patriotism and style, I’m sold!

Tons of people commented on it, stopped to ask me where I got it & even, took pictures of it!

PhotoGrid_1379326054193 IMG_20130916_153023Keeping with the patriotic theme of it all, I wore a handmade KL City Skyline necklace from Oh, Montgomery out for dinner. I passed the design and idea to them, and they made my vision of the necklace into exactly what I wanted! They work on custom designs as well as have some dope designs of their own. I absolutely love unique local brands, especially handmade things. Support your local handmade movement!

Being a huge The Beatles fan, I have more pairs of Lennon shades than I actually need & while cleaning out my closet, decided I should either get rid of em or do something with em.

From time to time, I watch Fashion Police on E! channel. Last week, Kelly Osbourne was wearing these gorgeous spike hair clips that I absolutely had to have! (Been looking online for a picture reference but unfortunately, couldn’t find one :/)

Since I’m such a sucker for anything with spikes and studs, I decided to make my own as it was incredibly easy but a;sp stylish and edgy.
So here’s how you can make one too!

I got a haircomb from Sinma, Midvalley for RM2. You can use any type of clips you want, I decided on a hair comb, since it would be something I’d personally use more often.
All you’ll need besides a clip, is a good, strong type of glue (mine was cement glue, you can also use elephant glue) & spike studs which I got from my supplier (H&m sells them as well).

I just stuck the spike studs in a straight line on the hair comb and left it overnight to dry. The very next day, I wore it out & absolutely love much edge it gives a casual look!
