My weekends are reserved mostly for updating this website, working on accessories, taking pictures of them and having to cue them for sales the following week. Running your own business and being a perfectionist means having do everything yourself from scratch. As much as it’s tiring, I love it and wouldn’t have it any other way ๐Ÿ™‚

That also means limited time to go out to get my hair done. I was beyond thrilled when Supermodels Secrets stocked up on Manic Panic semi-permanent hair dye. Before getting my hair coloured, I read up many articles on hair dyes and most sites recommend Manic Panic. This was a perfect opportunity for me to try it out;z3iu

Staying true to my mermaid self, I opted for turquoise & purple yet again. But this time, I was going to do it myself. The end result, was fairly impressive (if I do say so myself);

I previously had it bleached professionally and the tedious part about coloured hair is that it fades really quick. So glad I now have these jars of Manic Panic hair dye to last me quite awhile. It’s quite messy to do on my own, but I’ll manage ๐Ÿ™‚ Gloves, an old towel and a t-shirt you don’t mind messing up are essential.

Of course along with the Manic Panic hair dye, I was tempted to buy other beauty and makeup products as well. This time around I got makeup palettes (my old one broke) and a set of brushes.ย IMG_20141116_163957I had to have these once I saw them because I constantly need to come up with new makeup ideas and creative makeup for shoots, even if its something as simple as taking pictures of myself in the accessories I need to upload for sale. Yes, I’m my own brand model and makeup artist as well ๐Ÿ˜‰ Jane of all trades, is I!

This week I worked on a simple mermaid inspired look for the intricate coral necklaces I had in store. The pigments from the eyeshadow was amazing once I applied two layers (one was too light on my skin!), however it lasted really long. The brushes were super soft and gentle on my skin!

The end look;ย IMG_20141116_163451Besides the mermaid inspired eye makeup and nude lips, I stuck on pearl detailing to the side of my face for a more glam mermaid feel. To blend it in, I softly brushed on silver eyeshadow; ย IMG_20141116_163238IMG_20141116_163412The whole look worked perfectly with the jewelry;ย PhotoGrid_1416127410022PhotoGrid_1416127353571

I love waking up to surprises! Especially it forms of art ๐Ÿ˜€
Illustrated artwork & costume design by the talented fashion designer Hariharan ofย Ardana Haran.

Combining his personal style of drawing and designing, to incorporate my love for mermaids and adding one of my handmade dreamcatchers to his design. Or to quote him “All I did was draw the real inner you, Ardana Haran style”. This was the result of that;

Deepavali day two. With my family, the party never stops and I foresee an entire week of functions *yay!!!*

My second Deepavali outfit;PhotoGrid_1383494130834Top, pants & shoes: Bazaar at Bukit Jalil.
Bangles: Mix & match, plain ones from Brickfields, & the thread ones (in pink) from Varnam Gallery.
Clutch: Gift
Ring: Gift from India.

I opted for really, really bright colours this time around, with a combination of hot pink, purple & turquoise. I call this combo, the Barbie colours.

Both my top & pants were made from a really soft cotton lycra material. I love how vibrant the colours were and how they complimented each other perfectly;
PhotoGrid_1383485045105My bangles were a mix and match from the bangles I’ve collected throughout the years. I mixed plain metal bangles with threaded ones to give it a different look. My clutch was plain turquoise, to add a pop of blue to my outfit;
PhotoGrid_1383498078410The jhimki earrings were handmade by yours truly to match the outfit ๐Ÿ™‚PhotoGrid_1383494394115This Ganesha ring, eventhough a small piece of accessory was the highlight due to how unique it was. It looks almost like a statue, with the 2D effect it has. My favourite god, Ganeshaย the Hindu god of intelligence and success;
PhotoGrid_1383494568686My shoes, were this super comfy and funky shoes I got for RM25 at the Bukit Jalil bazaar. It’s hand embroided, so the details on it are very intricate;

PhotoGrid_1383494640770

& for my make up of the night, I kept it at a minimal due to the vibrant colours I was already wearing. I did however, do winged cat eyeliner to give it an old Tamil movie actress look ๐Ÿ˜‰ Exaggerative eyeliner was in back in the days ๐Ÿ™‚

My diamond shaped pottu was from Urban Aura Signature.
IMG_20131103_225741Excuse the extreme flash, I didn’t have any other picture of myself.

For Deepavali, it is tradition that we wear new clothes. I love this sort of a tradition, I mean, which girl doesn’t like an excuse to shop?! ๐Ÿ˜€

Deepavali also means, going to the temple, visiting family hence a lot of travelling and lots, & lots of eating! Here’s what I wore;
PhotoGrid_1383363460463Top, pants, bag, slippers & ring: Bazaar at Bukit Jalil.
Bangles: Bollywood Accessories, Brickfields.
Earrings: Gift.

This year I opted for a light blue outfit, staying true to my Indian mermaid self ๐Ÿ˜‰ The kurta top with goldish-bronze embroidery work in front was perfect for the weather as it wasn’t too warm. I got the top (after bargaining) for RM30.

The harem pants, was actually something I bought the year before at the same bazaar but never wore so technically it was new as well. It was a plain white free size pants, with pretty paisley designs. Again, super comfortable to wear for all that travelling;
PhotoGrid_1383366405434Now my favourite part, the accessories! The bangles are a mix and match from my older collection of bangles. The best part about bangles are you can always just remove or add on new colour and types to make it work. I have quite a big stack, so I usually just work around with those I already have ๐Ÿ™‚

The ring is probably one of best buys I got this Deepavali at the bazaar. At Rm10, this beautiful ring reminds me of the kollam design which gives this modern accessory a tradition twist;
PhotoGrid_1383364487757This is my favourite find this year, a ethnic Indian paisley designed handbag for RM10. Yes, RM10 for this gorgeous unique piece! I wish I had bought a few more colours as this is such a steal!;PhotoGrid_1383364560779Slip on flats, with embellishment to add a little festivities to my feet! This was also purchased at the bazaar from a year back or so;
IMG_20131102_122844& as for my make up, I keep it as minimal and as natural as possible because I knew a whole day out meant a lot of sweating. I used the basics for skin, eyeliner (it’s a must for every Indian girl ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) & nude lipstick from Stage.

My pottu was from Urban Aura Signature ๐Ÿ™‚ย IMG_20131102_084249May millions of lamps illuminate your life with endless joy,prosperity,health & wealth always.ย Wishing you and your family a very Happy Deepavali!

Lots of love, peace & rainbows from the Indian mermaid of Deeper than Fashion
